Using mobile data in Ukraine: local tips
- Install the official air-alert app. The Air Alarm app pushes civil-defence alerts for the city or region you choose, loudly even in silent mode, and needs no registration.
- Keep train tickets on your phone. Ukrainian Railways’ own app lets you search for trains, reserve seats and buy tickets, then show the ticket on your screen to the conductor.
- Plan for sudden power cuts. Attacks on the energy network can cause blackouts with little notice. Keep your phone and a power bank charged, and carry some cash, as ATMs and card terminals may stop working.
- EU SIMs roam at home prices. Since 1 January 2026, the EU’s “Roam Like at Home” rules cover Ukraine, so EU-issued SIMs can use calls, texts and data at domestic rates.
- Emergency numbers by service. Dial 103 for an ambulance, 101 for fire and 102 for police.
