- 5G strongest in the cities. Every Portuguese municipality has 5G, but most 5G sites are in urban areas — expect the most consistent 5G in Lisbon and Porto and more 4G in the rural interior.
- Azores and Madeira. Both island groups have 5G in every municipality but not every parish — remote villages may only get 4G, so download offline maps before hikes and coastal drives.
- Tap on the Lisbon Metro. The Lisbon Metro accepts contactless Visa and Mastercard cards and phone wallets — exit with the same card or device, and use one card per person.
- Trams and buses. Lisbon’s Carris buses, trams and funiculars take contactless cards on board, but that ticket is valid only on that vehicle — transfers cost extra.
- Train tickets in the CP app. The CP app sells intercity and regional train tickets and can show timetables offline — buy and download your tickets while you have signal.
- Lisbon airport ride pickups. Uber and other ride-hailing pickups at Lisbon Airport happen only in car park P2 on the arrivals level — request your ride from inside the pickup zone.
