Using mobile data in Oman: local tips

  • Airport Wi-Fi with a foreign number. Muscat Airport’s free Wi-Fi sends the password by SMS to local numbers; with a foreign number, show your boarding pass and passport at a flight information desk.
  • Mwasalat buses by phone. The official Mwasalat app plans routes and sells tickets; you validate on the bus with a QR code on your phone.
  • Licensed taxi apps. Oman’s approved ride-hailing apps include Oman Taxi, OTaxi, Marhaba, Hala and Tasleem.
  • Check the forecast before wadis. Wadis are prone to flash floods after heavy rain from October to March — check the forecast while you still have signal.
  • Emergency number. One number, 9999, covers ambulance, fire and police.

Checked against official sources in September 2026. Services and coverage change — check the app or operator before you travel.
