South Africa Daily eSIM — Never Run Out of Data

Daily-renewing data plan for your South Africa trip: choose 500MB–10GB high-speed data per day and the exact number of days you need (1–30 days). Once your daily high-speed allowance is exhausted, speeds are reduced — maps and messaging still work, unlike fixed-data plans where connectivity drops entirely.

Using mobile data in South Africa: local tips

  • Power cuts can hit the network. Planned power cuts (“loadshedding”) are much rarer now but can still happen, and they can affect mobile networks and Wi-Fi. Carry a power bank and check Eskom’s schedule.
  • Patchy outside the cities. Reception is generally good in major towns and cities but can be intermittent in rural areas — download maps and bookings before driving to remote parks and reserves.
  • Emergency numbers. From a mobile phone, 112 reaches the emergency services. For the police, call 10111.
  • Book rides only in the app. The UK government warns that scammers target e-hailing users in major cities. Use a recognised service, book and confirm in the app, and avoid pickups near minibus-taxi ranks.
  • Live bus times in Cape Town. The official MyCiTi app shows timetables by route or stop with live updates, so you know when your Cape Town bus is due.
  • Free public Wi-Fi in the Western Cape. Many provincial government buildings in the Western Cape broadcast free public Wi-Fi called “WCG_LiquidHotspot”, open to anyone with a Wi-Fi device.

FAQ

Depends on your chosen plan: 500MB/day → 512 Kbps; 1GB/day → 512 Kbps; 2GB/day → 512 Kbps; 3GB/day → 512 Kbps; 10GB/day → 512 Kbps. After that, you stay connected until your daily high-speed allowance resets.

eSIM plans for South Africa connect via Vodacom. Your device automatically selects the strongest local network; 5G is available where supported by the carrier, otherwise 4G/LTE applies. The specific carrier for each plan is listed on its detail page.

Daily plans provide a fixed amount of high-speed data refreshed each day (e.g., 1 GB/day). Once the daily high-speed limit is reached, speeds are reduced but connectivity remains — the full high-speed allowance resets the next day. Fixed-data plans end completely once exhausted; additional data must be purchased.

Essentially similar to "unlimited" plans on the market: you always stay connected, but speeds are reduced after exceeding your daily high-speed data allowance. We clearly state the reduced speed for each plan so you can choose the right one—no vague marketing.

Select the exact number of days for your trip — from 1 to 30 days. Pricing is per day: travel for 5 days, pay for 5 days — no need to overbuy a 30-day package.

1 GB/day is enough for maps, messaging, and social media. 2–3 GB/day if you frequently watch videos or make video calls. 5–10 GB/day for livestreaming or sharing a hotspot with your group.

For most plans, validity starts from the first time your eSIM connects to a network at your destination—you can safely install it at home before flying. Exact details for each plan are clearly stated on its product page.
