Ethiopia Daily eSIM — Never Run Out of Data

Daily-renewing data plan for your Ethiopia trip: choose 1GB–10GB high-speed data per day and the exact number of days you need (1–30 days). Once your daily high-speed allowance is exhausted, speeds are reduced — maps and messaging still work, unlike fixed-data plans where connectivity drops entirely.

Using mobile data in Ethiopia: local tips

  • Register your phone on arrival. A phone brought into Ethiopia must be registered with the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority before it will work. You can do this at Bole International Airport or at a shop of the main mobile provider.
  • Keep key details offline. Mobile networks are inconsistent outside the main cities and can be shut down without notice. Save your itinerary, bookings and emergency contacts on your phone or on paper.
  • Carry a power bank. Power cuts are frequent across Ethiopia, particularly in the dry season from November to June, and not all buildings have generators. Charge your devices whenever you can.
  • Leave the satellite phone at home. It is illegal to bring satellite phones or drones into or out of Ethiopia without prior approval from the national security agency.
  • Ambulance number in Addis Ababa. UK advice lists 907 for an ambulance in the capital. Police numbers differ between official sources, so ask your hotel which to use.

FAQ

Depends on your chosen plan: 1GB/day → 1 Mbps; 2GB/day → 1 Mbps; 3GB/day → 1 Mbps; 5GB/day → 384 Kbps; 10GB/day → 384 Kbps. After that, you stay connected until your daily high-speed allowance resets.

eSIM plans for Ethiopia connect via Safaricom. Your device automatically selects the strongest local network; 5G is available where supported by the carrier, otherwise 4G/LTE applies. The specific carrier for each plan is listed on its detail page.

Daily plans provide a fixed amount of high-speed data refreshed each day (e.g., 1 GB/day). Once the daily high-speed limit is reached, speeds are reduced but connectivity remains — the full high-speed allowance resets the next day. Fixed-data plans end completely once exhausted; additional data must be purchased.

Essentially similar to "unlimited" plans on the market: you always stay connected, but speeds are reduced after exceeding your daily high-speed data allowance. We clearly state the reduced speed for each plan so you can choose the right one—no vague marketing.

Select the exact number of days for your trip — from 1 to 30 days. Pricing is per day: travel for 5 days, pay for 5 days — no need to overbuy a 30-day package.

1 GB/day is enough for maps, messaging, and social media. 2–3 GB/day if you frequently watch videos or make video calls. 5–10 GB/day for livestreaming or sharing a hotspot with your group.

For most plans, validity starts from the first time your eSIM connects to a network at your destination—you can safely install it at home before flying. Exact details for each plan are clearly stated on its product page.
