Using mobile data in Costa Rica: local tips

Check the official coverage map. Before heading to Osa, Monteverde or the Caribbean coast, check the regulator SUTEL’s free map for measured signal and speeds by operator.
5G is still limited. 5G is expanding around San José and parts of Guanacaste and the Central Pacific. Elsewhere, and especially in remote areas, check coverage for your route.
Book park tickets online. Manuel Antonio National Park sells entry only online through SINAC, not at the gate, and is closed on Mondays. Keep your reservation handy on your phone.
Waze knows the road closures. The national road agency CONAVI feeds road closures and roadworks into Waze, so live data helps you avoid closed roads.
