Thailand has set up a Cell Broadcast alert system with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. It pushes pop-up alerts with sound to phones in an affected area, with no app or sign-up, and messages can go out in Thai, English, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. After the 2025 tests, True advised updating to Android 11 or later or iOS 18 or later, so update your phone and keep emergency alerts switched on.

The free Thailand Tourist Police app, for iOS, Android and Huawei, has an SOS button that connects you to 1155 or to the nearest officers by GPS, plus live chat in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian. TAT says the app does not need a Thai SIM, so it works on a data-only eSIM, while a normal call to 1155 needs a SIM with a number.

A newly registered SIM has to be activated within 60 days, otherwise you must verify your identity in person again. Carriers' verification systems need NBTC approval, so buy from an official shop rather than a street stall.
