Germany Daily eSIM: Never Run Out of Data

Daily-renewing data plan for your Germany trip: choose 500MB–10GB high-speed data per day and the exact number of days you need (1–30 days). Once your daily high-speed allowance is exhausted, speeds are reduced: maps and messaging still work, unlike fixed-data plans where connectivity drops entirely.

  • Lowest cost per GB: 10GB/day, about $1.00 per GB of high-speed data.
  • Speed after the daily cap depends on the plan: 1 Mbps on 1GB, but only 500 Kbps on 2GB. A bigger plan doesn’t mean faster speeds once the cap is reached.

Using mobile data in Germany: local tips

  • 5G covers most, not all. O2 and Vodafone each covered about three-quarters of Germany’s land area with 5G in late 2025. Expect 4G in rural stretches.
  • Check the official coverage map. Before a rural drive or hike, check the Bundesnetzagentur’s coverage map. It shows 4G and 5G separately for O2 and Vodafone, including dead spots.
  • On ICE trains. Train windows block a lot of signal, so Deutsche Bahn fits repeaters in all ICE trains. Free WIFIonICE shares its bandwidth among passengers, so performance varies and large downloads are discouraged.
  • Berlin’s U-Bahn is covered. All nine Berlin U-Bahn lines and their 175 stations have 4G in the tunnels as well as on platforms.
  • Deutschlandticket is a subscription. The Deutschlandticket is a digital monthly subscription that renews automatically: cancel by the 10th of the month if you don’t want the next month. It covers local and regional transport, not ICE, IC or EC trains.
  • Carry some cash. In 2025 cash was still used for 45% of purchases in Germany, and card or phone payment wasn’t possible for about one in seven in-store purchases.

Checked against official sources in September 2026. Services and coverage change: check the app or operator before you travel.

FAQ

Depends on your chosen plan: 500MB/day → 512 Kbps; 1GB/day → 1 Mbps; 2GB/day → 500 Kbps; 3GB/day → 512 Kbps; 5GB/day → 512 Kbps; 10GB/day → 512 Kbps. After that, you stay connected until your daily high-speed allowance resets.

eSIM plans for Germany connect via O2 (Telefónica), Vodafone. Your device automatically selects the strongest local network; 5G is available where supported by the carrier, otherwise 4G/LTE applies. The specific carrier for each plan is listed on its detail page.

Daily plans provide a fixed amount of high-speed data refreshed each day (e.g., 1 GB/day). Once the daily high-speed limit is reached, speeds are reduced but connectivity remains. The full high-speed allowance resets the next day. Fixed-data plans end completely once exhausted; additional data must be purchased.

Essentially similar to "unlimited" plans on the market: you always stay connected, but speeds are reduced after exceeding your daily high-speed data allowance. We clearly state the reduced speed for each plan so you can choose the right one. No vague marketing.

Select the exact number of days for your trip, from 1 to 30 days. Pricing is per day: travel for 5 days, pay for 5 days. No need to overbuy a 30-day package.

1 GB/day is enough for maps, messaging, and social media. 2–3 GB/day if you frequently watch videos or make video calls. 5–10 GB/day for livestreaming or sharing a hotspot with your group.

For most plans, validity starts from the first time your eSIM connects to a network at your destination. You can safely install it at home before flying. Exact details for each plan are clearly stated on its product page.
