Unlimited eSIM China: Real specs before you buy
"Unlimited" means different things across eSIM providers. The table below shows exact details from the plan you’ll receive — including your high-speed data allowance, post-threshold speeds, and carrier — so you know exactly what you’re buying.
What can I still do in China after using up my 3GB high-speed data allowance?
3GB high-speed data ≈ 9.8 hours of 360p video or 2.7 hours of 720p HD video (estimated using YouTube’s recommended bitrates). Once exhausted, speeds will be reduced to 384 Kbps – 1 Mbps (depending on the number of days you select) until your daily allowance resets:
- Message WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger
- Email and Google Maps navigation
- Voice calls via apps
- Watch videos and scroll Reels/TikTok (very slow downloads)
- Video calls
- HD video streaming, large file downloads, and hotspot sharing with a laptop
The list above shows the lowest available rate (384 Kbps) to avoid surprises.

Using mobile data in China: local tips
- Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay first. Both let visitors link an international Visa or Mastercard and pay by QR code without a Chinese bank account — install and set them up before you fly.
- Maps that work. Apple Maps in mainland China runs on Amap data, and the AMap Global app adds English bus, metro and taxi information.
- Ride-hailing in English. DiDi’s app has an English interface, accepts international bank cards and translates chat with drivers between English and Chinese.
- Train tickets need verification. Book trains on China Railway’s official 12306 platform in English. Your passport must pass real-name verification, online or at a station, before you can buy.
- Blocked services. Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are blocked on mainland Chinese networks. Whether they work on a travel eSIM depends on how the plan routes data — contact us before buying if you rely on them.
- 5G reaches towns across China. China reports almost 5 million 5G base stations, with 5G in every town and along major rail and highway corridors. Coverage is much sparser in remote regions such as Tibet — download offline maps.
Checked against official sources in September 2026. Services and coverage change — check the app or operator before you travel.

FAQs about China eSIM
Everything you need to stay connected on your trip.
Unlimited data: your connection will never be cut off. However, high-speed data is limited to 3GB per day; once exhausted, speeds will be reduced until your daily allowance resets. Post-threshold speed in China: 384 Kbps – 1 Mbps (depending on the number of days you select).
Connects via China Mobile, China Unicom. Your device automatically selects the strongest available local carrier — no manual selection needed. 5G is available where the local carrier has deployed it; elsewhere, 4G applies.
At 384 Kbps these still work: Message WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger, Email and Google Maps navigation, Voice calls via apps. Not recommended: Watch videos and scroll Reels/TikTok (very slow downloads), Video calls, HD video streaming, large file downloads, and hotspot sharing with a laptop.
Unlimited (1GB/day high-speed data) starting at $0.97/day is enough for maps, messaging, and social media. Unlimited Plus (3GB/day) starting at $1.52/day is better if you frequently make video calls, post stories/videos, or share a hotspot with travel companions.
Yes. Note that hotspot usage counts toward your plan’s high-speed data allowance — a single laptop can quickly consume 1GB, and carriers may throttle speeds when hotspotting. For group sharing, we recommend Unlimited Plus or Premium.
The number of days starts when your eSIM first connects to mobile data at your destination — not from the purchase date. We recommend installing your eSIM before departure and only enabling it upon landing. Some plans auto-activate 30 days after purchase if unused, so buy close to your travel date.
Most iPhone XS+, Galaxy S20+, and Pixel 3+ models support eSIM. Your device must be unlocked.
No. This is a data-only plan; you’ll make calls and send messages via WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger.
100% refund if the eSIM hasn’t been activated or if there’s a technical issue caused by us that we cannot resolve.
