- Coverage in national parks is patchy. Cell service in US national parks can drop even where carrier maps show coverage. Check the park’s “Basic Information” page before you go.
- Yellowstone especially. Service in Yellowstone is extremely limited and mostly around developed areas; summer crowds can overload it so that data stops working.
- Save park info offline. Download the official NPS App and save your park’s content for offline use on strong Wi-Fi before heading somewhere remote.
- Offline directions are for driving only. Google Maps offline areas give driving directions, but walking, transit and live traffic still need data. Update offline areas before they expire.
- Fastest 5G is in cities. Verizon’s fastest 5G (Ultra Wideband) is concentrated in cities; elsewhere you will usually be on 4G LTE or standard 5G.
- Keep your home line for codes. Uber and Lyft verify your number by SMS. Keep your home line active on your dual-SIM phone for texts and use the eSIM for data — this eSIM has no US number.
